How do we know if we have a spirit animal? The answer is yes, we all do. Did you ever notice that you have an attraction to a certain animal? Some of us, it's cats, some it's dogs, if you let your spirit soar your could be an eagle or maybe a hawk.
What are Power Animals?
Power animals are animal spirits that are given to us at the time of birth. Later, we may obtain other animal spirits as old power animals have moved on. This occurs during times of illness. The power animals that we are born with are not always the animals that we carry with us all of our life. As we get ill, our power animal loses strength to protect us from illness or negative influences. A new power animal often renews our spirit. How do I know what is my power animal?
Journeywork is what is necessary to find out what is your power animal or animals. Journeywork is a deep meditation, usually accompanied by drums or drumming tapes. Look at your local new age bookstore, and ask for journey drumming tapes or Cd's. A steady 4x4 beat. Sort of a heart beat line to the soul.
The Meditation.
For this journey you will need a room with no distractions. Take the phone off the hook, the dogs & children outside, put on loose clothing, light a candle and turn off the lights. Lie down, close your eyes and listen to the beating drum. Feel the beat inside you. In your mind's eye go to an area of comfort. A field or meadow, where there is an opening in the earth such as a cave, a hole in which to climb into. It's best to visualize a place where you have visited before. I usually go to a cave that I have visited as a young child on summer vacation. It has slick shiny walls with forms of crystals and mineral deposits. In the middle of my cave is a pool of water. The water is clear and you can see the bottom. There you will see a glowing light at the bottom of the pool. You hold your breath and dive in. While in the pool you notice you can breathe under water. Start to swim towards the light. Reach towards the light as you push on and on as the light comes closer. Then you are enveloped in the light and you notice you are coming to the surface on the other side. This is the under world, a world of inner consciousness. Here is where your power animal lives. You then reach the edge of the pool, dry off and walk around the area. Notice the foliage and the wild life.
If an animal approaches you, ask it, "Are you my power animal?" If the answer is no, move on and look for a glade, a small forest of trees. If an animal shows its fangs or teeth to you, do not pursue this animal. If your animal says, it's your power animal. Then start to ask it questions like..."How long have you been my power animal?"; "What kind of power can you give me to help with my quest?"; "Is there more than one Power Animal that helps my well-being?".
Later, ask the power animal to merge with you, so you can bring it back with you to the conscious world. Merging is the transfer of the power that occurs when you hug or hold your power animal in your mind's eye. Usually, the power animal turns into bright light and is inhaled into you or it melts into your torso/chest. After this occurs, thank the power animal inside of you and make your way back to the pool. Dive inside and notice the light on the other side. Reach back to the cave and out of the earth. Approach your body laying in the field or meadow. Wake up from your journey. I usually have a pad or a tape recorder to record my journey. Once I've documented my journey, I bring out a (cleared) quartz crystal. I cough up the power animal's energy into the crystal and wrap it in a pouch or cloth. This must be made of a natural material i.e., cotton, silk, or leather till a time of illness of loss of energy.
When in need of the power, place the crystal to your third eye, between your eyes and brow. This activates an instant link to your power animal or animals. To clear the crystal of the power animal you can pour natural sea salt or Kosher salt over the crystal until totally covered a place on a windowsill or smudge with sage to release the spirit from it temporary home and back to the subconscious.
White Crystal Feather has studied with the Seneca Indians for over thirteen years (besides spending time with them as a child on summer vacations). Under the watch of a shaman called "Crazy Turtle", he was given the Indian name, "White Crystal Feather". You can visit White Crystal Feather at:
