Also available over-the-counter at almost any pharmacy, DMAE is a natural nutrient found both in our brains and many types of seafood (like anchovies and sardines). DMAE can improve memory and learning, increase physical energy, brighten mood, and has been shown to extend the lifespan of some laboratory animals. The most obvious and noticeable trait of DMAE is its stimulant effect, which is unlike the quick jolt obtained

from caffeine and amphetamines. I’ve found DMAE’s "upper" effect to be very subtle and not unlike that of Lucidril (which is not a surprise as Lucidril breaks down to DMAE in the bloodstream). DMAE works by helping the brain’s synthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Be patient with DMAE: It can sometimes take up to three weeks to take effect, and dosage should be started low and gradually be built up. Again, consult your physician for proper administration procedures.

THE DOWNSIDE: Side effects of DMAE overdosage can range from headaches to tension and insomnia. Epileptics are advised to avoid DMAE, and it should also be avoided by manic-depressives as it tends to down phase of that condition.
