Centrophenoxine

(Brand name: Lucidril) Though not sold in the U.S., Centrophenoxine is one of the more popular Smart Drugs available from overseas import or over-the-counter in Mexico. The drug works in two ways: First, it removes deposits of lipofuscin (the material that "age spots" are made of) in the brain and thereby "repairs" synaptic response. Second, in the bloodstream, Centrophenoxine breaks down into DMAE, or

dimethylaminoethanol, a natural nutrient that can elevate mood among other things (see below for more on DMAE). My own experiments with Lucidril have been positive, especially in times of creative pressure.

THE DOWNSIDE: Centrophenoxine is not advised for those who are easily excitable, suffer hypertension, or are prone to convulsions. Nor should the drug be used by nursing mothers. Some rare adverse effects include motion sickness, insomnia, depression, and high blood pressure.
