Why is this happening to me - Part III
by William Perry, M.A.
The fear and intimidation used by our parents towards us is carried forth and becomes the same treatment we use on ourselves as adults. Listen to the words you say, witnessing them carefully. Are you falsely accusing yourself of being stupid, ignorant, lazy, or just plain crazy as a means of "straightening up" to push yourself towards a goal? If the answer is 'yes', the belief that you are a nice and deserving person loses credibility by your own verbal language. Learn to speak more lovingly by first recognizing the negative self-talk, and then undergo a reeducation process that impacts positively your subconscious mind.
A woman once told herself over and over again "I'm a flake" each time she undertook a goal only to find out later she forgot to think through the steps needed for success. One day she woke up with a severe case of dandruff. Her body had produced a reaction to her constant negative self-talk, reminding her that indeed she had become "flaky". Belief in oneself only transpires when there is an underlying positive regard for self. Belief includes the right to foster a goal, creating optimism by counting our victories, and discarding all scarcity mentality.
When one finds faith in a loving Creator, the premise of equality being God's chosen way takes on reality for us. When my clients began to see Creative Force living in everything, themselves included, the right to live more abundantly starts to surface. The universe is predicated upon equality, yet identifying with it often becomes difficult. When a client sees an older brother or sister who appears to be more talented, creative, or intellectually bright they find difficulty with the universal understanding that everything is equal. Spiritual equality has to do with the gift of life. Ultimate life has no boundary, restriction, or limitation. Life is a gift from Creator without exception.
Free will or free choice comes with the territory of life. Nothing in the universe, including our planet is without it. True equality from the spiritual perspective contains this nugget of truth: each of us can aspire to the greatest heights of success or the furthest depths of deprivation. Equality, simply put, means that everyone has the right to make his/her choice in any given moment. We all have equal opportunity to make personally valid choices for ourselves. Understanding the concept that we are given the right to make as many choices as we like makes it easier to realize how abundant life is. Scarcity includes promotion of lack. Free will conclusively shows that lack is an illusion. If you or I have an unlimited number of choices, ones we have been given free reign over, then the excuse to claim deprivation has no substantiation.
Understanding the spiritual nature of life includes the awareness: no excuse is valid when concerning creation. There is universal life force and there is universal free will. The combination of these comprises the raw material to reach any goal. Claiming our right to own the desire for, and the fulfillment of, a goal is paramount to our progress. Combining this claim with a vision of victory helps create positive self-regard and confidence. The more optimism we include in our focus the more we train the subconscious in new improved, unlimited ways to view our lives. This exercise in creating safeguards for a positive future is a most important point. It is pivotal for anyone who has grown up with fear of lack. Lack of personal regard for self or lack of faith in universal goodness and abundance can be overcome. They are only perceptions of one's outlook about self and life. Both can be changed. We can all start right now.
- Think of some belief that no longer serves you because of its limiting power.
- Imagine how you would feel and what you would think with a substitute belief of a less constricting nature.
- Think of an incident of a similar nature where you overcame fear, now remember how empowering your feelings were at the moment of victory.
- Imagine again being in a situation where a brand new belief rules an incident. Create a scene where you borrow the confident feelings of success and place them right in the middle of your present dream.
- Practice this transference over and over again until the association of your newly desired belief and the successful feeling of having infused it within are one.
